Orgless and Yeah headline final ESL One Rio qualifier semifinals
The fourth and final qualifier for the ESL One Rio North America Closed Qualifier has reached the semifinals, seeing 53 teams reduced to just four.
The first two rounds of the qualifier concluded without any notable upsets, with Supremacy facing an early elimination at the hands of Brazen.
Moving into the third round, number one seed Polar Ace managed to claim a 16-6 win over fellow Advanced side ETHEREAL while Recon 5 also managed to claim a 16-8 win over Oceanus.
Further down the bracket Brazen claimed their second South American casualty of the bracket, narrowly pulling off a 16-14 win on Dust2 over Infinity.
Orgless also managed to send New England Whalers packing with a 16-13 win on Nuke while Asuna's Anime Aimers rounded out the fourth round by besting Can't Win Anything 16-13 on Mirage.
The final round of play yesterday started off with Brazen forfeiting to Yeah, giving the Brazilian squad a free pass into the semifinals.
With the forfeit out of the way, Recon 5 started off the quarterfinals proper by taking down Polar Ace 16-11, while Orgless dominated Faint 16-5.
In the final match of the night, Big Frames secured a 16-10 upset win against Asuna's Anime Aimers thanks in part to a strong performance from Andy "devastation" Parr.
With only four teams left, today's matches are:
Big Frames | vs. | Orgless | 6 PM EST |
Yeah | vs. | Recon 5 | 9 PM EST |
Big Frames versus Orgless is set to begin in short order while Yeah will be taking on Recon 5 later tonight. The winners of these two series will join the other fourteen teams in the ESL One Rio 2020 Closed Qualifier, which is set to begin on March 6th.
