Gorilla Gang slip on banana peel in Advanced playoffs
In a huge upset in just the second round of Advanced playoffs, Gorilla Gang fell 2-0 against Recon 5, dropping to the lower bracket and requiring at least three wins to qualify for MDL Relegation next month.
A horror show Inferno performance from Jared "MAC-1" Schneider's side saw Gorilla Gang lose the first map 16-4. Things went from bad to worse on Mirage as they quickly found themselves 11-4 down against a Recon 5 quintet looking to qualify for MDL for the first time. Despite a poor T-side, the Gang fought their way back before eventually falling 16-13, sending the first seed down to the lower bracket.
Elsewhere in the upper bracket, Thunder Logic took a close series against Precision, with Dominick "JazzPimp" Dimpfel's 33 kills helping to secure an overtime victory on Nuke. This puts Recon 5 and Thunder Logic just one series away from securing their spot in MDL Relegation, with a guaranteed spot in ESEA's highest league on offer for the eventual Advanced champions.
The first three teams to be knocked out of contention for an MDL spot were Good Game PR, DEFY and Clarity, losing their first lower bracket matchups against Brazen, ETHEREAL and timbermen, respectively. Clarity falling to timbermen is another notable upset as timbermen, who barely sneaked into the playoffs via tiebreakers, took down the sixth seed of the bracket.
