Is vorborg on his final days with EG?

Evil Geniuses coach explores options

The coach might no longer be at the helm.

Evil Geniuses appear to be making further moves in their backroom staff as head coach Daniel "vorborg" Vorborg is examining his options ahead of the new season. Dexerto reported that the Danish coach has been left out of the loop of recent roster developments as the organization is making dramatic changes ahead of the fall season.

The addition of vorborg was questionable at the time, considering his primary coaching experience was with Copenhagen Flames, the now-defunct organization where he was also an investor. vorborg had stepped into the coaching position for Flames after Faruk "pita" Pita moved to Dignitas in late 2021.

He would be the head coach of the men's team from January 2022 through the 2022 PGL Antwerp Major where the squad finished in the Top 8 as Legends. Shortly after, vorborg, as well as the entire team, would part ways with the organization following the expiration of their contracts and finding other suitors.

vorborg joined Evil Geniuses as the organization underwent its "Blueprint" rebuild in the Summer of 2022. At the time, it was an ambitious project that sought to save North American Counter-Strike by signing two of the top unsigned rosters to contracts and working to develop them for top tier competition. However, the organization has not been able to fully see the fruits of the project develop as they have released one roster, imported foreign talent, and seen both Jadan "HexT" Postma and Jerric "wiz" Jiang not yet ready for international play.

The Danish coach will now be exploring his options on the market, but his experience with Evil Geniuses will not be seen as attractive considering the lackluster performance of the squad in the first half of 2023.

At the same time, a report by Alejandro "anonimotum" Gomis of BLIX noted that Evil Geniuses are targeting Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski and Denis "electroNic" Sharipov as potential additions to their international roster. Additionally, talks between the organization and Audric "JACKZ" Jug and Aleksandr "zorte" Zagodyrenko have advanced to the stage of verbal agreement, suggesting Evil Geniuses are committed to their transition into a European squad, joining Liquid in the exodus from North America.

Should all these moves come to fruition, Evil Geniuses may be:

  • United States Timothy "autimatic" Ta

  • Sanzhar "neaLaN" İskhakov

  • Audric "JACKZ" Jug

  • Aleksandr "zorte" Zagodyrenko

  • Denis "electroNic" Sharipov

  • United States Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski
