0-2 to Major Legends; a record broken
Liquid have completed the miraculous comeback down 0-2 in the Challengers Stage all the way to becoming Major Legends (in the true, and accurate sense of the term). The squad have fought tooth-and-nail as they grinded their way back to a 3-2 record in the first stage and then defeated both 9INE and Natus Vincere in the grueling first day to set up a match with Heroic.
While the Danes proved too much in a crucial 1-2 qualification match loss, Liquid were able to bounce back with confidence and ran riot over the British from Into the Breach, ensuring that there would be no repeat of the War of 1812 on our hands.
GamerLegion have been somewhat of a surprise considering they also started 0-2 in the Challengers Stage and have almost copied Liquid's qualification run identically. This will be the first time that two teams within the same Major have gone from 0-2 in the Challengers Stage to Major Legends, something that has been done before with Cloud9 at IEM Rio, but never done with two teams.
Even more interestingly, GamerLegion and Liquid have yet to play against one another, but may do so as their first match on stage depending on the remaining outcomes of Legends Stage matches.
As we noted before, GamerLegion and Liquid qualifying for the Major was the first time that two teams started off their Major campaign 0-2 and then both still qualified for the Major. Now, not only have both teams qualified for the next stage, they have both qualified for the Championship stage.
An incredible feat of resilience and valor from two teams, both in different stages of progression in the world. Liquid, now a favorite for the semi-finals and potentially the Major title while GamerLegion remains an upstart team, proving their worth beyond recognition.
