drop: "We need to be more confident and peek them"
FURIA got their Major campaign off to a less-than-ideal start, as they fell to a 16-7 scoreline against Monte. The team looked all out of sorts and, as drop would mention, individually they did not look sharp. It is a worrying sign for the IEM Rio Major Semi-Finalists, as they look off the pace and could miss out on the Major playoffs for the first time since 2019.
After the team's opening loss, Andre "drop" Abreu spoke to Dust2.us' Ryan Friend briefly about the team's loss, the lack of individual performance, and how the team plans to bounce back from the early setback.
Discussing their opponents specifically, the young rifler believes that Monte's confidence in their individual form is key to how they play. With the team always looking to take engagements and heads up fights making it tough for FURIA to play their game. drop also mentioned the decision to keep force buying, which allowed Monte to run away with the lead.
It was a really hard game, they have really good individuals so they are always peeking you and trying to put their game inside the server. Losing both pistols is hard because we didn't win any force buys, so we started 6-0 or something like this and yeah that's it.
Asked if the team will approach their next game any differently, drop explains that they won't. With the main problem being the level of individuals rather than the team's gameplan. FURIA's key stars didn't show up at all in the game, with only IGL Andrei "arT" Piovezan showing up on the server.
Not really we are just going to prepare ourselves as we did for this game, but in this match specifically, we didn't like deliver individually. With the exception of arT, he was the only one playing, like I was not playing, KSCERATO, yuurih, saffee. That's the main reason we lost and it just can't happen. We will try to reset figure out why we didn't deliver and try to get better for the second match.
The Brazilian team seems to feel that the solution to their poor individual performances is to improve their confidence in-game. drop believes that taking more engagements and making better decisions in the server will solve the lackluster performances of their individuals. Despite the poor start to the Major, the rifler remains confident in the team's game plan.
We just know we need to be more confident and play our game when we are playing against these guys. We need to be more confident and peek them. Making more great decisions, like it's all about individuals to be honest. As a team, we were playing as we planned it, so that's individual things.
FURIA will be facing off against NIP in their 0-1 match, after the European side lost to 16-11 to old rivals fnatic in their first round match.
