hallzerk: "If we don't reset, it will go bad"
Complexity got off to a good start at the RMR with a convincing 16-11 win over GamerLegion, a close loss to G2 followed leaving them 1-1 for the day. However, matched up against fellow NA residents paiN the young squad struggled, early losses to eco's crushed their momentum and they never recovered falling 16-4.
The loss leaves Complexity in the 1-2 pool, with their most likely potential opponents being TheMongolz or fellow NA side Liquid depending on how the results go. The team will have the rest of the day to prepare as the 1-2 matches don't start until tomorrow.
After the loss, Complexity's AWPer Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli stopped briefly to talk to Dust2.us' Arnie Petty about the loss, how the team plans to reset and the very real threat of going home early.
Understandably, the AWPer's disappointment was palpable as he began the interview by talking about what went wrong with the paiN match.
We didn't show up. That's it. We played badly, with people getting multi-kills when we should have got the trade.
Complexity lost two anti-ecos in the early rounds which ruined the team's chances of building up momentum early on. A 3v1 loss in the next gun round didn't help the team and another loss against pistols on their CT half squashed any hopes of a comeback. It is not the first time at the Major that teams have pulled off the pistol round wins and the Norwegian AWPer believes that the danger of these rounds has increased due to the high individual skill level in tier one Counter-Strike.
Yeah definitely, when people have good aim all they need is one headshot and you're dead. It's definitely one of the reasons.
Moving onto the veto, Complexity played paiN on Nuke at the RMR, where they also lost in a much closer game 16-10. Despite having suffered that loss, Complexity felt confident heading into the map and were hoping to end up on it.
We feel like we did not play well at the RMR against them, we felt if it was one or two more clutches going our way that game we would have won that game. We were definitely confident and we were wishing for this map.
With the rest of the day off, Complexity will hope to benefit from having some hours of rest and research as they prepare to fight for their tournament lives tomorrow. There are a number of potential opponents for the team, but the most likely scenarios include the team facing Liquid or TheMongolz.
We have to go back to the hotel room and review what was going on. If we don't show up tomorrow we are gone, we have no choice but to go back and fix it.
The positive about tomorrow's game is that it will be a full BO3 not just a BO1, something hallzerk believes will help his team move forward. Especially with their tendency to drop some advantageous rounds.
Yeah, I think that's definitely going to help us. I think the BO1s you lose one pistol, and one anti-eco, you are 6-0 down basically, and it's hard.
Asked how the team can reset from the loss, hallzerk was blunt with the response, knowing that anything but their best form from now on will see the team exit the Major early and put all their hard work to waste.
I mean we can't let this one bad defeat make us play badly tomorrow. If we don't reset, it will go bad, so it's just something you have to do.
Complexity will have to wait to find out who their next opponent will be as the day's matches need to come to a complete end before it can be decided.
