Evil Geniuses lose out against Monte
Evil Geniuses continued their bootcamp in Europe where they got their third BO3 win of the year on Monday against LDLC OL in the CCT West Europe Playoffs Series 3. The organization have consistently struggled so far this season, but there is hope that new signing Ismail "refrezh" Ali will be able to turn the tide for the team and bring them back to glory.
After defeating the French, the North American squad was matched up against the Ukrainians from Monte, who have qualified to the Major and have their first game against FaZe in the Challengers Stage.
The first game would be on Monte's pick of Anubis, a traditionally T-sided map with EG on the defense to start it off. However, the North American team would turn heads as they pulled out the first half to a 9-6 scoreline in their favor.
Even once on the T-side, they would go up 14-8 and look like they might steal away an opponent's map pick. However, Monte would fight their way back to close the score at 15-13 and eventually tie the game to go into overtime. A double overtime game would not end up in Evil Geniuses favor, despite Timothy "autimatic" Ta's impressive 39 kill performance.
An impressive showing on Anubis promised a positive performance on Nuke, but Monte decided to immediately spoil the party but getting a 6-2 lead before securing the first half on their CT-side 10-5. With the sides switched, the hope was that EG might be able to respond to the deficit with a defensive masterclass of their own, but a lost pistol round would set them back en route to a 16-5 loss.
