Complexity scrape through opening match
Ahead of the BLAST.tv Paris Major, Complexity have kicked off their run in ESL Challenger Melbourne to practice and compete for the lion’s share of a $100,000 prize pool. Things very nearly went awry for the North Americans in their opening game, as a 12-3 scoreline at halftime versus ECSTATIC was rapidly whittled away, with Complexity eventually coming out on top 16-14 after significant struggles.
Complexity started on the CT-side on Nuke, and after conceding the opening pistol round to ECSTATIC, Johnny “JT” Theodosiou’s men locked down the map, taking the next six rounds in a row. A weak economy and lack of consecutive rounds left ECSTATIC in the dust, and despite winning the pistol round, they only managed a meager three rounds on the half.
ECSTATIC once again managed to procure a pistol round, a necessary step if the Danes wanted to make a comeback attempt viable. Complexity responded with a force-buy victory, setting the North Americans up to quickly close out the match, but ECSTATIC rallied with four rounds straight, more than they had collected throughout the entirety of the first half. Complexity posted one round to halt the streak, but ECSTATIC quickly returned to their winning ways, even breaking into double-digit rounds.
With Tobias "kraghen" Kragh Kensen firing on all cylinders, ECSTATIC dragged themselves to a tied scoreline at 14-14, putting Complexity in a dire spot after such a strong first half. Complexity finally broke the Danes' streak to take match point, and were spared from an overtime match thanks to a crucial 1v3 clutch from Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli, allowing Complexity to finally close the game out 16-14.
Complexity will now be looking forward to their game gainst the winner of EG Black versus Grayhound, who they will be hoping to beat in a much cleaner fashion.
