Legendary Danish organization files for bankruptcy
After 11 years, Danish organization Tricked announced that they will be suspending all operations following their filing for bankruptcy. Founded in 2012, their Counter-Strike division was represented by multiple big names in the Danish scene such as current Heroic player Rasmus "sjuush" Beck and new Evil Geniuses player Ismail "refrezh" Ali.
The news comes as a surprise considering that the organization was only bought by new owners in November 2022, however, it continues the trend of financial struggles in esports that has been prevalent as of late.
The announcement, which was made in Danish, addressed the cuts which were made following the RightBridge Ventures takeover and that without major reinvestment, they were forced to file for bankruptcy.
One of the cuts, made on February 7th was when Tricked put their entire esports division on hold stating that "As the country (Denmark) stands today, the professional esports setup that Tricked Esport wants to operate is too difficult to lift and Tricked Esport does not see that we can fulfill our esports ambitions in a responsible way in the current market."
Following the announcement, Tricked founder Morten Jensen expressed his disappointment to Dust2.dk about the situation saying; "it is mega heartbreaking if this is the end of what I started 11 years ago. I put blood, sweat, and tears into it and had great memories with Tricked. But most of all, I'm sad that I don't think the brand I've built has gotten the treatment it deserves."
Unfortunately for Jensen, despite the company being bought for DKK 28 million ($4,120,051.60), financial hardship has been more and more common in esports, with fellow Danish-Norwegian esports organization Heroic struggling as of late.
