Vorborg: "we didn't expect bringing up another blueprint player would fix [leadership issues]
After the announcement of Ismail "refrezh" Ali, Evil Geniuses received considerable criticism of the signing due to their previous work with the Blueprint Project. Such criticism revolved around signing several North American rosters and deciding to search for a European talent instead.
In response to the derision on social media, Daniel "Vorborg" Vorborg responded in kind by explaining the decision to go after a player such as refrezh, as well as explaining why using a player from the Blueprint team simply was not possible given the needs of the main squad.
For Vorborg, and the rest of the Evil Geniuses squad, choosing refrezh was a deliberate choice not because they saw anything wrong with the way that members of the EG Black team played, but because they didn't have the leadership quality needed to propel the team to further heights. With Jadan "HexT" Postma and Wesley "viz" Harris, neither posses that top international level experience that the team needed.
In regards to the constant questions regarding Paytyn "Junior" Johnson and Jerric "wiz" Jang, vorborg makes it clear that neither have actually had enough time to perform.
wiz has only been on the EG main team for a few months, with junior having even less time on EG Black. Changing the team so soon, with only just a few short months to show the abilities of both players would be premature.
The coach did address the criticism from Mohan "launders" Govindasamy, acknowledging that he wouldn't call the caster "wrong", however he disagreed on the basis that the issue was not a lack of firepower, but the leadership quality that they could find in refrezh over anyone else in the Blueprint.
Finally, in explaining the decision on removing HexT and putting in refrezh, it was not due to poor performances from HexT, but once again, the lack of leadership within the team that drove the organization to making this move. If the organization could not find a player, then they would likely have kept the young Canadian on the starting roster.
