EG headed to the Americas RMR
It was recently revealed that Detonate withdrew from the Americas RMR after the ECL team was hampered first by passport issues and by not being allowed to make additional emergency substitutions. Now BLAST has released a statement confirming the team has dropped out and will be replaced by Evil Geniuses.
Evil Geniuses will have to use the same members who played during their unsuccessful qualification run, with one Coach and one Substitute being allowed as per VALVE's guidelines. EG will also take over Detonate's seeding at the event. This news comes amidst a shake up in the primary team's ranks as Ismail "refrezh" Ali is rumored to be in talks with the team.
BLAST provided the following statement regarding the team.
Ahead of next week’s Americas RMR, Detonate have unfortunately had to forfeit their place in Monterrey, Mexico after being unable to submit a valid roster due to a number of unforeseen circumstances.
The team had already used one substitute and requested to use a second. Under Valve’s rulebook and guidance, rosters are restricted to one substitute. Detonate's request for an additional substitute has been declined due to the roster restrictions in place.
Due to this ruling, Detonate will be replaced at the Americas RMR by the team next in line for qualification from the North American RMR Closed Qualifier, which is Evil Geniuses, who have accepted the invite to play in the tournament.
Furthermore, to minimise disruption to preparations, EG will take Detonate’s tournament seeding and previously announced matchups as per Valve’s guidance.
This will be a surprise addition for Evil Geniuses who crashed out of the North American Closed Qualifier and will now get one more shot at the apple.
