ex-EG White member takes pause
Former Chaos EC and Party Astronauts rifler Jonathan "Jonji" Carey has announced that he is taking a break from competitive play after informing his Evil Geniuses teammates.
The incredibly vibrant entry fragger has been part of the North American scene for quite a while, despite flirting with a move to VALORANT. After failing to establish himself in VALORANT following a string of uninspiring results with BBG Academy, Jonji returned to CS:GO while still under contract with Built By Gamers, standing in for Party Astronauts in early 2022, before becoming the permanent replacement for Gage "Infinite" Green.
The Party Astronauts side would establish themselves as one of the most dominant amateur sides in North America, earning themselves contracts with Evil Geniuses as part of the Blueprint project.
As part of the Seattle-based organization, Jonji and his teammates would find the most success out of any of the teams in the Blueprint, with a dominant victory in Fragadelphia 17 over BIG Academy and an Apeks team featuring Richard "shox" Papillon being the only silverware won during the project.
In a longer thread where Jonji alluded to his need to take a step back, he talked about the struggle of "loving what you do" but feeling out of place in what he was doing.
He talked about the struggles of professional esports competition being his entire life, but forced into a crossroads of what is to come for the player. Jonji also talked about how the "industry is just not for me anymore".
Jonji has not ruled out the possibility of coming back to compete at a later time. Given the recent closure of EG White earlier this week and his contract with the organization ending on April 3rd, the player has some time to reflect on a hectic year before deciding what to do in the future.
