Third ECS Season 8 Pinnacle Cup qualifier reaches quarterfinals
Just eight of the original 62 teams remain after the first day of the third ECS Season 8 Pinnacle Cup qualifier, with the qualifier picking back up later today.
Unlike the previous qualifier, there was a relatively small amount of upsets, with the most notable one coming when Latin American Pro League side Infinity fell 16-9 to Glizzy Gang, a mix team including the likes of Jimmy "Marved" Nguyen and Daniel "tropiiical" Elshani. Glizzy Gang would go on to beat Adam "Polen" Polen's MDL mix team 16-14, a close game despite Polen's side only fielding four players.
RUNnGUN reached the quarterfinals after battling through a tough bracket where they managed to send ETHEREAL and Front packing. Their next opponents, Tiny Meat Gang, had a similar story, beating out Clarity and ARCTIC ROAR to reach the second day.
ATK, Rap Gang, Ascent, and LiViD were all favorites to reach the quarterfinals, and the bracket treated them favorably as they all avoided early matchups with one another. Monstars and Big Frames were not so lucky, as the two MDL sides faced each other in the round of 16, with Monstars coming out on top 16-6 to reach day two.
The quarterfinal matchups are as follows:
RUNnGUN | vs. | Tiny Meat Gang |
ATK | vs. | Glizzy Gang |
LiViD | vs. | Rap Gang |
Monstars | vs. | Ascent |
The four quarterfinals will all get started tonight at 8PM EDT, and the winners will have to play one more best-of-three to decide who will qualify for the ECS Season 8 Pinnacle Cup. Only one open qualifier remains, with only two more teams having the opportunity to qualify.
As always, the date and signup link for the last qualifier can be found on the Dust2.us Calendar.
Update: Dust2.us has learned that Ascent will be unable to play their match tonight, and will be forfeiting their match vs Monstars. Monstars will play the winner of LiViD vs Rap Gang in the semifinals.
