Misfits upset North; lead Group B in Odense
Coming into this match after a win, Misfits were looking to keep their run at the top going. Heading off against Danish upstarts North, the two were set to clash on Cobblestone.
Misfits started their CT-side defense off strongly by taking the pistol round and the following anti-ecos, before North claimed the first full-buy round. Misfits took it close on the following round, but Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså secured a 1v2 to prevent an economic reset. North kept on rolling, causing their North American counterparts economic damage to give them a lead, before Misfits then evened the match out again after a questionable push from North. Misfits then pushed forward onto the following two rounds, leading them up to a 6-4 lead.
North pushed back on the following round, with valde once again keeping his team in the game. René "cajunb" Borg and Philip "aizy" Aistrup then linked up to put a halt to Misfit's plans, taking the two following rounds as they saw their opponents on an eco. Misfits then returned to earlier form at the end of the half, with two solid site holds sending them with a narrow 8-7 lead at the half.
It was then Misfits onto the T-side, where they repeated their first half escapades, claiming the pistol round and the following anti-ecos. North then also repeated the first half, by securing the first full-buy round but Misfits then managed to halt any further gains from the Danes thanks to a strong 3k from IGL Sean "seang@res" Gares, sending their opponents onto an eco. From there, Misfits were 13-8 up and looking to be close to causing an upset.
A quasi-buy couldn't stop the run from Misfits, as a fast explosive burst onto the B-site puts them into a strong position. North then perfrom a strong hold on the same map, helped along by a valde 3k spraydown, keeping them in the tie. Misfits then bodied their way onto the A-site, and secured match point against their Danish opponents. The following round was then taken by Misfits, where a clever tactical display saw the North American side secure the game, with French import David "devoduvek" Dobrosavljevic securing three kills to finish off the map for his squad.
NRG are the next North American side up, facing strong opposition in the form of Swedish NiP.
