FURIA bounce back to advance
After a disappointing 2-0 loss to MOUZ, FURIA looked to bounce back in their matchup against the Spaniards from Movistar Riders. A loss for FURIA here would ship the Brazilians off to the Last Chance Stage, where they would face the loser of the BIG/SAW matchup. Hungry for a deep run after a poor showing in Katowice, FURIA needed to clean up their act today if they want to reach playoffs.
The match kicked off on Rider's pick of Inferno where the Spaniards dominated in the opening half jumping out to a 7-1 lead before the Brazilians knew what hit them. FURIA was able to claw their way back and showed some signs of life as they closed the game to five and finished the first half at 5-10.
With FURIA now attacking, more and more life seemed to come from the squad. They overwhelmed the Spaniards the same way they were by winning nine out of ten rounds to come all the way back to 14-11. With FURIA front and center, they would close out the map 16-13 on their opponent's pick.
Things were starting to look up for the Brazilians as they moved to their own pick of Anubis, but that hope would be quickly dashed as they once again went down too easily to start the game. The Riders would go take a 6-3 lead on their T-side, before finishing the half 9-6.
FURIA had it all to do in order to prevent a third map. They would be able to make it 12-12, but they could not secure the map as Movistar Riders fought and FURIA had to go to two overtimes, just for the Spaniards to secure the map 22-20.
The vetoes ended on Nuke being the decider map, so both teams set up to fight it out one last time. On their CT-side, FURIA but up an admirable score, 8 rounds to their name. However, it was their T-side where they truly made their mark.
A slew of terrorist rounds bombarded Movistar's CT-side as the Spanish team was only able to prevent FURIA's attack once on the whole map. Every FURIA player pitched in as they won the map 16-8 and avoided the last-chance stage.
FURIA will now play the winner of the SAW/BIG game taking place later today for a playoff spot.
