Team Brazil stomp Swedes in sweatiest showmatch ever
Train was the destination that we found ourselves on for the IEM Rio showmatch between team Brazil and team Sweden. The heavy favorites of team Brazil started on the CT-side after Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo took down honorary Swede Finn "karrigan" Andersen in the knife round 1v1. Team Brazil got off to a strong start at 5-0, despite Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg's best efforts to clutch a 1v3 in round 3. Karrigan opened up quickly with a double on Ivy to give Sweden their first round on the T-side. However, there would be no spiral of rounds from this as Brazil continued to dominate on the preferred side. Marcelo "coldzera" David and Fernando "fer" Alvarenga combined for several multi-frag rounds, giving Brazil a 7-1 lead.
Professor FalleN schooled fellow IGL Karrigan in another 1v1 on the B site, continuing the streak of rounds for the Brazilian side. Adam "friberg" Friberg avoided the embarrassment of being knifed by coldzera as a result of the crowd giving it away. Brazil continued to stomp on the Swedes, with no plants being afforded to Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund and co. The Brazilians closed the half out in style, buying 5 AWPs before coldzera one deaged friberg to close the half 14-1.
The long road back for Team Sweden had to start with a pistol round victory and the Scandinavians delivered just that. The Swedes had to be practically perfect if they wanted to silence the crowd in Rio. After stringing together four rounds, a Tec-9 rush on B lead to the Brazilians claiming match point with fer concluding the round by stabbing f0rest. Sweden refused to lie down for the Brazilians, continuing to inch their way back round by round reaching 15-8. FalleN rolled back the years to claim victory in the showmatch, winning a 1v3 to give the fans what they wanted to see ahead of the grand finals.
