Final StarLadder Major Americas Minor open qualifier reaches Round of 16
The first day of the fourth and final StarLadder Berlin Major Americas Minor open qualifier has concluded, reducing the already dismal turnout of 51 teams down to 16.
Having struggled with a power outage for one of their players in the previous open qualifier's semifinals, The Quest made short work of securing their spot in the top sixteen, earning a bye in the first round of play before defeating Aimers with Brains 16-8 in the round of 32.
A handful of upsets also occured, with Infinity once again being sent packing in the round of 32 by a fellow ESEA Main roster, LiviD falling to a Blake "Strings" Stringer-less Llama Pack, Holo dominating New England Whalers 16-2, and Prospects narrowly being eliminated by a mixteam called Mountain Dew after they were forced to play 4vs5 as Dylan "RIKO" Sabin-Arnce was unavailable.
In a now-deleted tweet, Josh "JoshRT" Lee had asked RIKO to "wake up" during the team's match, although Dust2.us has been told that RIKO had informed JoshRT of prior commitments that ended up taking longer than expected.
Other notable names to make their way to day two include ex-Zone, who secured a win over Front, Mythic, who edged out a 19-17 win over Lowkey, and Thunder Logic, who secured a 16-0 victory in an initial 5vs4 matchup before cruising through to the top sixteen with a 16-5 win against a mixteam.
The matchups for the second day of play look as follows:
The Quest | vs. | Collateral |
Falcons | vs. | Holo |
Moscow 5 Yankees | vs. | Good Game PR |
ex-Zone | vs. | Nfinite |
Mythic | vs. | Glizzy Gang |
Llama Pack | vs. | SODMG |
Altima | vs. | Thunder Logic |
Hysteria | vs. | Mountain Dew |
The Round of 16 will commence tomorrow at 5 PM EDT, where two teams will look to secure the final qualification slots to the StarLadder Berlin Major Americas Minor Closed Qualifier.
