FURIA numb the paiN
In a match that guaranteed Brazilian participation at the Major, FURIA were able to successfully make their way through after a surprising upset loss against Evil Geniuses in the second round. The team were able to rally back at 1-1 and made quick work of their opponents en route to qualification.
The match started out on paiN's pick of Nuke, however things did not go immediately to paiN's plan. In losing the pistol, Rodrigo "biguzera" Bittencourt and his squad quickly fell behind to FURIA's staunch CT defense. With FURIA looking unstoppable they quickly racked up eight rounds in a row before paiN could respond. By then, it was far too late as paiN could only muster four offensive rounds to draw a 4-11 deficit by halftime.
It was looking bleak for the underdogs and would only look bleaker as they would lose the second pistol as FURIA extended their lead to 13-4. While paiN were able to muster a few rounds together, there were no match for the ever rambunctious Andrei "arT" Piovezan as the Neymar supported organization would close it out 16-8.
Vertigo would be a back and forth map between the two teams as paiN battled hard against the best Brazilian team in the world. Last time the pair met on Vertigo paiN stole a win 22-20 and would have to force the same result to get to a final map decider.
It started off even and would continue to be a close contest throughout, for FURIA it was their teenage rifler André "drop" Abreu who showed his worth by dropping a server high 26 kills, and a 1.33 rating.
It would be paiN's former star AWPer 27 year-old Rafael 'saffee' Costa let would punish his former side in the series, posting a 1.42 rating and propelling arT's side to a spot at the first Brazilian Major. It was relief for FURIA who have been under pressure after enduring a tough six months, for paiN they will have another chance in the 2-2 pool.
