9z qualified for the IEM Rio major
The RMR system is bound to give some incredible results, either surprisingly bad or surprisingly good. For ATK and 9z this has been an incredibly good run. Both teams ended day two with a 2-1 record, 9z are coming from a loss against EG, whilst ATK upset the MIBR squad. No one talked about these teams when the topic would be "who qualifies for the Rio major?", but one thing is known, either 9z or ATK are going to the major after this series.
The map veto declared that the series would be going to Inferno first, then Dust2 and, if needed, Mirage.
ATK started off their map pick with a poor first half, maybe due to some nerves. The South Americans from 9z didn't have any mercy and thrashed their opposition. The first half ended with a 13-2 scoreline for 9z in ATK's map pick.
The second half was as quick as it can get, with 9z not giving up any round. The first map finished with 9z winning 16-2.
Dust2 was closer this time. 9z started off pretty well and had an 8-2 lead at some point. After that, ATK became more active and started to show signs of life. The half ended 10-5 for 9z with Franco "dgt" Garcia finishing the 15th round with 20 kills and only four deaths.
The second half saw 9z winning another pistol and three more in a row. ATK managed to get two gun rounds on the board, but that was it. The match ended 2-0 after 9z won Dust2 with a 16-7 score.
9z now join EG and Liquid in Rio. ATK will have to fight through the 2-2 gauntlet in order to clinch a spot in the major.
