INTZ and FURIA join ESL One Cologne Closed Qualifier
The second ESL One Cologne open qualifier has concluded, and the final two teams to qualify have been confirmed. At the end of the first day, INTZ, Singularity, FURIA and Luminosity were the remaining teams in the contest.
The first match up was between INTZ and Singularity, with free-agent Jaccob "yay" Whiteaker standing-in for the Brazilian team. The teams vetoed down to Inferno, Cache and Mirage and saw all three of the maps played.
Inferno commenced with Singularity on fire, picking up the first six rounds on their T-side without a response. This would be the theme for the American side throughout, limiting INTZ to just four rounds as they went in at the break with a strong 11-4 scoreline. The second half was more wearing for the American team, as INTZ re-opened the game with the pistol and anti-eco rounds.
Although Singularity picked up the following three rounds to go 14-7 ahead, they were forced to wait for their win as INTZ picked up another three of their own. Ping-pong was used to end the game, with Singularity eventually finishing 16-11 winners. Ricky "floppy" Kemery was the strongest player on the server, finishing with 100.1 ADR and a 1.53 rating.
Cache followed, and it was a much more simple game for INTZ. They barreled out the door on the T-side, taking the pistol and anti-eco round to start their lead. From there, they restricted Singularity to single round wins, going in at the break 11-4 up. The second half continued the show, as they picked up the first four rounds to hit map point, before taking the game 16-5. Alexandre "xand" Zizi led the board for his team, with a 1.95 rating and 107 in ADR.
Mirage was next, and it started off in a similar vein to the previous map. INTZ opened with the first three rounds on their T-side, before Singularity won the first gun round. After that, the Brazilians returned fire with seven rounds in a row, with the end of the half being a close fight with INTZ ending up 11-4 ahead. Play resumed with INTZ taking the pistol and first anti-eco, before Singularity returned fire with three of their own. From there it was ping-pong to the end, with the Brazilian team running out as 16-9 winners.
Next up was the all-Brazilian match between FURIA and Luminosity, on Overpass, Cache and Inferno. Overpass started strong for FURIA, taking the first four rounds before their opponents answered with four of their own. After that, it was FURIA racing on to the break to go 11-4 up. The second half began with FURIA taking the pistol round, before Luminosity wrestled control of the game away from their countrymen. Although FURIA reached map point first, Luminosity forced the game to overtime, before taking the map 19-17. Ricardo "boltz" Prass led the table with 103.5 in ADR.
Cache followed, and another close game followed. Luminosity got off to a stronge start, taking the first four rounds, before FURIA followed with three of their own. From there, they retained control of the half, limiting their opponents to two more rounds for a 10-5 lead. The second half was all FURIA, as they raced out the gates with three of their own, before sharing the next four rounds. From there FURIA took a narrow lead, before fighting Luminosity for map point, and secured a 16-14 win.
Inferno was the finale, and FURIA were the dominant team. The start saw them take the first four rounds, before losing the next three to Luminosity. From there they remained in charge, and barring two rounds towards the end of the half they went in at the break 10-5 ahead. The second half was all FURIA, as they went from pistol round to winning round undefeated, taking a 16-5 win. Andrei "arT" Piovezan was FURIA's strongest player in the map, finishing with a 1.53 rating.
