00 Nation struggle to overcome Spirit
After convincing opening matches for both teams in the play-in, Spirit have proven they are the stronger team after a lengthy 2-1 series over 00 Nation. The mostly Russian side have now moved onto group stage whereas 00 Nation fall to the lower bracket where they'll be playing for tournament life.
The series kicked off on the Brazilian side's pick of Vertigo however things didn't even have a chance to move-off before derailment struck the 00 Nation train. Claiming seven rounds in a row, Spirit then managed to finally lose a round to allow the customary the 7-1 scoreline. Allowing a further three rounds to be won by 00 Nation, the half finished 11-4 in favor of Spirit.
Topping the board on both CT and T-sides, Eduardo "dumau" Wolkmer only managed to help his team secure the opening T-side pistol round but nothing more. With Robert "Patsi" Isyanov's combined rating of 1.97 on Vertigo, the map was closed out 16-5 for Spirit.
Moving on to Spirit's map pick of Dust2, things started better for their opponents this time. Although the Russian side claimed the pistol round on their T-side, 00 Nation were able to deny them the next two rounds. However, after Spirit were able to return to a full-buy, it seemed that things were back to normal with them picking up seven rounds in a row. After that, the teams got into a rhythm of trading long streaks of rounds back and forth.
00 Nation claimed the last five rounds of the first half, then continued on to secure the opening four rounds of their T-side too. Switching over to Spirit, it was their turn to score five rounds in a row before returning it back to the Brazilian side for another four. The scoreline being 15-13 in favor 00 Nation, Spirit managed to secure one more round but were unable to move to overtime and the map ended 16-14 for their opponents.
The final and decider map of the series was Ancient where Spirit started on the T-side. Opening somewhat strong with the pistol and a round conversion, things looked good for the Russians, however, 00 Nation were not looking to be taken out easily.
Spirit, however, too felt the same way on their CT-side and stormed into it with a 9 round streak. to a 14-10 lead. Despite a three consecutive rounds attempt by 00 Nation to stop the comeback, there was no success to be found for them. Spirit took the two required rounds to close out the map 16-13 and the series 2-0.
