Americas out in numbers for IEM Cologne 2022

The Americas are set to represent a sizeable amount of teams at IEM Cologne 2022, with seven sides from across the two continents heading to Europe to compete across both the Group Stage and Play-In.

Headlining the Americas in the Play-In stage is none other than Imperial who, despite bowing out in 13th-16th place at IEM Dallas, will still be brimming with confidence following their impressive showing at the PGL Antwerp Major last month. Joining the Brazilians in their quest to secure a spot in the Lanxess Arena are the young guns of Complexity who will be eager to silence the critics after having a relatively uneventful spell under the legendary banner since their signing in early 2022.

The remaining three teams descending to Cologne for the Play-In stage are the Brazilian trio of GODSENT, MIBR, and paiN, with the latter looking to use their experience from the BLAST Premier Spring Final in two weeks' time to help the side take down some of the world's best. Also of note is the fact that, should their acquisition of the GODSENT trio come to fruition, 00 Nation will instead be flying out to Germany.

Liquid are the sole North American representatives set to receive a direct invitation to the Group Stage. Determined to shrug off their lackluster showings since the revamping of their roster a few months ago, this event will be as good a time as any to turn it up a gear as they look to repeat their victory at ESL One Cologne back in 2019.

FURIA, on the other hand, will be carrying the flag of Brazil high heading into the Group Stage, with their spot secure thanks to their first-place finish in the North American ESL Pro Tour rankings. Their strong placements at both the Major and IEM Dallas will only serve to spur the side on as they look to build on their impressive outings in recent times.
