Unjustified and Limitless continue through the lower bracket of Advanced S40
ESEA Advanced playoffs continue to entertain, giving us two intense games last night with Unjustified and Limitless both taking home a victory. The two victors take one step closer to ECL glory, only having to win one more game to make it into relegation whereby another battle begins. Relegation is far from guaranteed as Limitless must face UYU, the team that knocked daps’ Orgless out of the RMR, and Unjustified take on Kinship.
The first of the two games was Limitless vs InControl, one that didn’t hold back on intensity as every single map seemed to have a star performer. Starting on Inferno, Limitless was able to take the first half as T-side but InControl was there every step of the way. In the second half, led by the fragging ability of both Michael "Millz" Millsaps and Matthew "Mirth" Mudrinic, Limitless was able to pull away as they completely shut down their opposition. Only allowing Andrew "Andrew" Burrell to put up a rating higher than 1.0 in the 16-11 win. Taking his momentum from the previous map, Andrew was able to dominate on Nuke, bringing his team to a map win that kept their ECL dreams alive. He dropped 27 kills and ended with a rating of 1.70.
The 16-9 victory ensured that the final map, Ancient, had everything riding on it and lived up to expectations. Limitless came out the gates with a vengeance, taking the first half 10-5 on the CT-side but as in the way with Ancient, InControl answered right back in the second half. When the 30 rounds had finished and the dust settled the scoreline was 15-15. Andrew continued to show up, this time providing his teams with 38 kills whilst, despite having to leave the server early, Devin "AtomiK" Ferrell dropped 30 of his own. The more well-rounded performance of Limitless undid InControl in overtime, leaving the scoreline at 19-17 in favor of Limitless' side.
The second match of the evening was Unjustified vs Big Chillin whereby Unjustified, despite connection issues in the first map, became one step closer to making ECL. The match began how the last ended, with a close overtime where two players went at each other. Both halves on Inferno mirrored each other, with Unjustified taking the first half 9-6 and Big Chillin returning the favor. It was only in the second overtime that you could differentiate the two teams as Hunter "Retnuh" Holm led his team to win the first map.
Despite a fantastically close first map, Big Chillin seemed to run out of steam on their own map pick Mirage. A McKinley "Cyrix" Hollison-led Unjustified dismantled their opponents in the first half, making it 13-2. The second half provided more excitement, with Big Chillin showing a glimpse of the team they were on the first map. Eventually, Unjustified was able to close it out 16-9. The third and final map, Vertigo, was much of the same as Unjustified came out swinging, converting six rounds in a row to finish off the first half 11-4. Unfortunately for Limitless, Zonic's law did not apply here. Unjustified carried on a run of good form, despite letting some rounds slip, and ended the match 16-10. A stand-out performance for Cyrix with 81 kills sees the squad going forward and facing Kinship tonight.
