Mythic, The Fundamentals and Party Astronauts still alive in second ECS qualifier
The first day of the second ECS Season 7 Challenger Cup Qualifier has finished, with the tournament taking a small break before the quarterfinals stage. These eight teams will face off in the remaining matches for two places in the upcoming Challenger Cup.
68 teams signed up to compete in this open qualifier, over double the total from the first tournament. This time, six MDL teams signed up, with Mythic, Party Astronauts, and The Fundamentals reaching the quarterfinal stage. The other three, iNTACT, Stay Frosty, and Infamous, all exited the tournament in the round of 16, with losses to Neutralize, Farmers and Lowkey respectively.
The only Advanced division team to get to the quarterfinal stage was Lowkey, the team headed up by Lucas "fiziq" Blow. The remaining four teams either came from Main (Neutralize and SODMG), or are teams created for the qualifier (Disciples of zecK and Farmers.)
Other notable teams to take part were Dignitas fe, who went out in the round of 32 to Mythic. South American squad Jaguar also took part, featuring ex-VAULT member Jaunes "sickLy" Valencia, who also went out in the round of 32, having fallen to Hentai Heroes.
The best-of-three quarterfinal games are as follows:
Disciples of zecK | -vs- | Mythic |
Lowkey | -vs- | Neutralize |
The Fundamentals | -vs- | F4rmers |
Party Astronauts | -vs- | SODMG |
Dust2.us has learned, however, that the Disciples of zecK intend to forfeit from the next round of competition, meaning Mythic will likely receive a default win into the semifinals.
These matches are all scheduled to take place at 7 PM EST, with the semifinals scheduled for 10 PM EST. The teams who win at the semifinal stage will join MASSIVEimpact and Zone in the Challenger Cup. As always, the dates and signup links for upcoming qualifiers can be found on the Dust2.us Calendar.
