FaZe outlast G2; OpTic shut out Gambit on Train
A strong 6-0 lead kicked off Overpass for FaZe as they quickly demolished G2 in the early game, securing the pistol round and building up a lead for themselves. Things changed for G2 once they got an AWP in Kenny "kennyS" Schrub's hands however, and the Frenchmen were able to finally put up a solid offense against the Europeans. G2 took their first round thanks to four kills on the entry from Dan "apEX" Madesclaire, and from there three rounds were traded between the two teams. Richard "shox" Papillon lead his squad through the motions as kennyS and Nathan "NBK" Schmidt started warming up into the match, taking four more rounds before FaZe finally grabbed the last round in the half to bring the score to 9-6 in their favor.
FaZe added yet another pistol round to their books, and quickly moved up to a 12-6 scoreline. Those would be the last three rounds FaZe would take for a long while as G2 began pushing back, beginning with three frags in connector from kennyS. Round after round G2 began pulling it back, despite many rounds coming incredibly close. Another three kills from NBK helped secure G2 their 14th round, putting them at a 14-12 lead over the CTs.
Unfortunately for the Frenchmen, they weren't able to close out the comeback as FaZe tied up the round score, picking up a team ace to take their own 14th round. From here it was smooth sailing for Finn "karrigan" Anderson's squad as G2's economy was demolished, and the match was closed out 16-14 in favor of FaZe.
Meanwhile, Gambit faced OpTic on Train. The CIS squad made their way to five rounds with very little contest from Adam "friberg" Friberg & co, but the European dominace began in earnest once OpTic got a second chance at a gun round. The only Gambit that showed up in the latter part of this match was the opening gambit from OpTic - they sacrificed the first five rounds to shut the Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov-led squad down for the rest of the half, closing out their CT side in the lead 10-5.
OpTic's reign of terror didn't cease as they went on to take the second pistol round of the match, working their way up to a 13-5 scoreline. It was here that Gambit finally managed to grab their first two rounds since their initial 5-0 lead. Even with securing these rounds, the match had slipped so far out of their control that OpTic cruised to a finish, shutting out the CIS team 16-7.
FaZe will now face OpTic to see who can be the first in Group B to grab two wins. Liquid will also take on Renegades, where we'll see Lucas "steel" Lopes debut on a North American squad for the first time.
