OpTic edge past CLG in Santa Ana
OpTic began their campaign in Santa Ana with a nice start on Train against CLG with Emil "Magisk" Reif helping to close out the first three rounds. The first gun round went to CLG however, as Stephen "reltuC" Cutler got some key entries onto the A bombite, but Kevin "HS" Tarn with a hero play on round five shut down the CLG side. Magisk and Óscar "mixwell" Cañellas kept up the pressure and put CLG's economy into the bin.
Ethan "nahtE" Arnold helped to get his team another round, but the American side were reset yet again. The next few rounds were very back and forth, with big plays from HS, Ricardo "Rickeh" Mulholland, and mixwell. Eventually the half ended 11-4 for OpTic after a close 1v1 by Rickeh.
Rickeh continued his form from the first half and picked up an important triple kill to put his team in prime position for a comeback. CLG capitalized on this opportunity and put up a very strong CT side, quickly catching up to OpTic at 12-12. OpTic crept their way up to 14 rounds, but a huge triple kill on the AWP by Kenneth "koosta" Suen gave CLG a chance to win.
The chance was squandered, as a fast half-buy play from OpTic destroyed CLG's defense and put the Europeans onto 15 rounds. CLG were unable to force overtime, and fell to OpTic with a score of 13-16.
OpTic now moves on to the Group B winners match against the winner of Liquid vs Misfits for a spot in the playoffs. CLG will face the loser of Liquid and Misfits in the losers match as well to see who will be eliminated.
