Ghost upset OpTic in ZOTAC quarter-finals
Despite having just added German player Kevin "kRYSTAL" Amend, Ghost walked away from the quarter-finals of the ZOTAC Masters Grand Finals with their heads held high as they dusted OpTic 2-1 to make their way into the semi-finals.
Coming into the Hong Kong based event, Ghost had a mountain to climb by drawing OpTic in the quarter-finals. The first map saw Kenneth "koosta" Suen and Matthew "Wardell" Bowman put the team on their back, both leading with 30+ frags on Nuke, for a 16-8 victory. It was Wardell's adept AWPing skills that the OpTic side was simply incapable of countering. Wardell was second in frags with 30, behind koosta, of which 23 of them were from the AWP.
Unfortunately for the North American side, Overpass was too difficult to muster a victory as they lost 16-7, however it was Wardell in the spotlight again when he got a ridiculous AWP kill five seconds from his own spawn.
The final map saw Ghost through to the semi-finals with an absolute destruction on Inferno winning 16-2. This time it was the Canadian frontier that saw OpTic out with Joshua "steel" Nissan and Wardell leading the team. At one point, steel was even spotted putting sticky notes on his monitor, no doubt to keep tabs on what OpTic was doing during their matches.
Ghost will be moving on to the semi-finals against Polish squad Kinguin, after they won their series against the Chinese TyLoo 2-1. That best of three series will be taking place on August 25th at 4:30 EDT.
