Cloud9 and eUnited to IEM Chicago Qualifier upper bracket final
The first day of the IEM Chicago North America qualifier has come to a close, with Cloud9 and eUnited advancing to the upper bracket final. In the lower bracket, Bravado and Ange's Big Toe were the first two teams to be eliminated.
The first series pit Ange's Big Toe against eUnited. Both maps were decisive wins for the eUnited side, with Michael "dapr" Gulino and Brandon "Ace" Winn putting up the highest ratings in maps one and two respectively. However, for the series it was Will "dazzLe" Loafman who had the best performance, posting a 1.51 rating over both maps.

The next quarterfinal saw a MDL final rematch between Bravado and Vision, albeit with the latter having a revamped roster. The first map went the way of Vision, with in game leader Andy "vSa" Xu posting 23 kills. Bravado answered back on Dust II with veteran Ruan "ELUSIVE" van Wyk pulling off a big performance with an 81% KAST during the map win.
The final map ended up being a strong victory for Vision though, as Gabe "Spongey" Greiner put up 111 ADR in their 16-5 win. Much like the last series, a different player had the highest rating over the whole series, that being Ricky "floppy" Kemery with a 1.35 rating.

This next series between Cloud9 and BlackOut ended up being the most interesting of the day. The first map was a stomp for the Cloud9 side, with Will "RUSH" Wierzba rolling over the BlackOut side. Interestingly, BlackOut responded with their own decisive map win on Cache, with Chad "Oderus" Miller styling on Cloud9 with a +12 K-D.
The final map went to overtime, with both sides having the advantage at different times. Eventually, Cloud9 with Timothy "autimatic" Ta in the lead won the battle of attrition and took the series. Another interesting bit about this series is that Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham secured the highest rating over the series, something not seen often.

Another three mapper closed out the quarterfinals between Swole Patrol and oNe. The Swole side took the first map fairly easily, with Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir putting up a nutty 120 ADR in the 16-6 win.
The second map went to the Brazilians, with most of the thanks going to Victor "iDk" Torraca, who picked up 31 frags and a 1.92 rating. Swole Patrol edged out the final map with freakazoid putting up an even better performance than the first map, with 32 kills in their 16-13 victory.

In the first semifinal, eUnited took on Swole Patrol, in somewhat of a rematch of the Fragadelphia 12 final. This series ended up being a stomp for the eUnited side, as dazzLe and dapr walked all over the MDL side. dapr even picked up a 2.04 rating in the second map as well as posting 125 ADR. This result put eUnited in the upper bracket final and gave them a chance to advance to the grand final.

The other semi saw Cloud9 take on the new look Vision. Both maps were close affairs, but went the way of the Pro team in the end. On map one, AWPer Skadoodle stepped up again, while on map two Slovak stand-in Martin "STYKO" Styk put up a big 1.90 rating. This will set C9 against eUnited in the upper bracket final tomorrow.

In the lower bracket, oNe dispatched of Ange's Big Toe in two pretty straightforward maps. Map one saw Alencar "trk" Rossato put up a 2.00 rating, and map two trk once again styled on the Americans with his 27 kills. Ange's Big Toe is now eliminated while oNe will face Vision in the next round.

In what could be considered the biggest upset of the qualifier so far, BlackOut took down Bravado to eliminate the South Africans from contention. The first map - Nuke - saw veteran Sebastian "seb" Bucki secure 28 frags on the way to his team's win.
The second map also went the way of the North American team, with Collin "wrath" McSweegan topping the leaderboard for his squad. This result puts BlackOut against Swole Patrol in round two of the lower bracket.

The qualifier will continue tomorrow beginning with the two lower bracket matches, followed by the upper bracket final. After that, the lower bracket final is set to be played.
