NRG to StarSeries qualifier grand finals; compLexity edge out Dignitas mix
In the first semi-final of the qualifier, NRG took on Swole Patrol, with the latter team fielding FYB's Edgar "MarKE" Jimenez and Braxton "swag" Pierce. The series kicked off on Nuke, with Swole Patrol on the CT side. Despite winning the first two rounds of the game, Swole Patrol began to falter as Ethan "nahtE" Arnold took back the lead for his team, giving NRG the advantage 5-2. Both teams continued to trade rounds with NRG retaining their lead at the end of the first half 10-5.
NRG continued to flex on Swole Patrol, nearly putting themselves at match point 14-6. Swole Patrol attempted to swing it back in their favor, pushing out three rounds before NRG took match point 15-9. After two more round wins from Swole Patrol, NRG closed out the map 16-11.
On Cache, NRG breezed through Swole Patrol as Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte led his team to a 12-3 half on the CT side. NRG's strong performance continued in the second half, with Swole Patrol unable to win even one round. NRG closed out the map 16-3 and took the series 2-0. With the win, NRG proceed to the grand finals of the StarSeries qualifier.
Similar to Swole Patrol, Diginitas were running with a modified roster, featuring Tyson "TenZ" Ngo and Anthony "gMd" Guimond. Dignitas' modified roster shined on Mirage, with a strong first half against compLexity giving them the lead 8-7. The second half proved to be even stronger, with Diginitas taking six straight rounds off the bat, giving them ample room to end the map 16-11.
On Inferno, compLexity grew more accustomed with Dignitas' new roster and outperformed the new mix. Jaccob "yay" Whiteaker led his team through a great first half, giving them a good advantage at halftime 9-6. compLexity dominated Dignitas in the second half, with six straight rounds giving them match point 15-6. After only one retalitory round from Dignitas, compLexity tied up the series with a 16-7 win on Inferno.
compLexity gained more momentum on Train, with Shahzeb "ShahZaM" Khan's strong AWPing giving his team a huge lead, ending the first half 12-3. In the second half, Dignitas initiated a comeback led by Peter "ptr" Gurney. After three round wins and two round losses against compLexity, Dignitas took eight straight rounds, nearly tying up the map 14-14. compLexity halted Dignitas' attempt, winning the last two rounds to close out the map 16-14 and take the series 2-1.
With their win over Dignitas, compLexity will take on oNe at 7:30 PM tonight. The winner of the semifinal match will proceed to the grand finals, where they will take on NRG for the lone slot in Kiev.
