Swole Patrol to StarSeries qualifier playoffs over BlackOut
Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir's Swole Patrol is the second team to emerge victorious from Group A of StarSeries i-League Season 6 qualifier after taking down BlackOut 2-0 in the group decider. They are joined by oNe, who topped the group after taking down BlackOut 2-0 themselves in yesterday's winners' match.
Swole Patrol were to face BlackOut on the same trio of maps as their opening matchup for the group — Overpass, Train, and Nuke. The first round matchup between the teams saw the initial two maps go to all thirty rounds, with BlackOut securing the win with ease on Nuke to claim a 2-1 win and advance to the winners' match, where they fell to oNe.
Swole Patrol evidently studied up on their mistakes from their last matchup and polished up their game, as this time around a dominant showing on the CT side of Overpass saw freakazoid and co. put up an impenetrable defense to take home a 13-2 first half. Jordan "Zellsis" Montemurro and Derrick "LILMAN" Boyne led the way for the team to easily close out the first map 16-2 after a decisive second pistol round victory.
The second map and Swole Patrol's pick, Train, saw a little more contention overall, but with Swole Patrol securing their T side pistol and working their way up to a 6-0 lead, things weren't going to be easy for BlackOut. Sebastian "seb" Bucki tried his best to keep his team in the game, and BlackOut mustered five rounds straight on their CT side to almost even the score; however, freakazoid and Zellsis continued to shine for Swole to breeze through the remainder of the half for a 10-5 scoreline.
A second half pistol round victory seemed to breathe life into BlackOut momentarily as seb and co. secured the ensuing anti-eco, but their comeback was put on hold as a loss to an ecoing Swole Patrol side put their chances of a recovery in jeopardy. BlackOut were able to fight for an additional three rounds, but were quickly put to rest by Swole Patrol who closed out the map 16-10 to advance out of Group A.
With this win, Swole Patrol have advanced out of Group A, and BlackOut have been eliminated. Swole Patrol and oNe now await the two victors of Group B, with the four group stage teams meeting the invited sides of NRG, compLexity, Ghost, and eUnited in the playoffs. Group B is set to kick off at 6 PM EDT tomorrow, beginning with Dignitas taking on Prospects and concluding with Bravado's match against Really Old People.
