Liquid defeat TeamOne in Americas Minor opener
The Major cycle has begun in earnest for teams in the Americas as the Minor kicks off. We previewed the event earlier, and beginning the proceedings today were Liquid and the Brazilians of TeamOne on Cobblestone.
Team Liquid started the game off by taking the pistol round, claiming the customary rounds following on from that. From there Liquid kept on rolling through the match, with Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken flourishing. Liquid managed to grab nine rounds before the Brazilians managed to finally win one in the tenth round.
With the Brazilian veteran of Pedro "Maluk3" Campos being the one strong member of his team, they managed to grab themselves three rounds on their T-sided play to avoid a complete shut-out humiliation from their stronger opponents. As the game paused at 12-3 at the half, Team Liquid were on the front foot on their run for a Major Qualifier spot.
Liquid weren't set to let up their fire-power in the second half, repeating the escapades of the first half. Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz showed a strong performance as he helped lead his side to a strong first win. With Liquid on match point, TeamOne managed to delay the inevitable a bit by grabing two final rounds before Liquid placed the last nail in their coffin.
This sends Team Liquid to the Group A winners match, and TeamOne to their elimination game. The two teams await their counterparts who will be determined by a match between compLexity and NRG.
