Torqued scale ex-Iceberg to reach MDL Global Challenge and EPL Relegation
The third place decider match for MDL playoffs between Torqued and ex-Iceberg has concluded, with the ex-IBP core coming out on top. The series ended in two maps and has netted the North American squad not only a spot in the MDL Global Challenge, but also a spot in the EPL Relegation tournament.
The bout began on Mirage, a fatal pick for ex-Iceberg. Torqued breezed past the CT-defense in the first half with little pushback. Only able to claim three rounds to their name throughout their CT-side, ex-Iceberg were at a nine round deficit come the half. After switching sides, Torqued would clean up the remaining four rounds they needed to quickly end the map 16-3.
As the two swapped over to Inferno, the tides began to shift. ex-Iceberg showed their resilience as they stuck it to Torqued in a similar first-half fashion that they fell victim to on Mirage. While a bit late to the party, Torqued composed themselves towards the end of the half, bringing it to a barely passable 6-9 scoreline in favor of ex-Iceberg.
After claiming the first three rounds of their T-side, Torqued managed to tie things up. From that point forward, the two teams traded single rounds back and forth for the majority of what remained of the map. It wasn't until the end that Torqued would manage to string the remaining four rounds together that they needed to close out the series with a 16-14 finish.
Torqued were eliminated from the IEM Sydney Closed Qualifiers by NRG 2-0 in the same day, a result that Josh "steel" Nissan attributed to "alarm clock issues" that forced the team to utilize their coach, James "JamezIRL" Macaulay, as a stand-in instead of Braxton "swag" Pierce.
The team is slated to compete in our Dust2.us Masters #2 by CSGOpositive.com, which will start tomorrow.
