Splyce, Ghost, oNe and Bravado pursue IEM Sydney Closed Qualifier
It was a long day for those involved in the IEM Sydney North American Open Qualifiers. Of the 69 teams that began the day, only Ghost, Bravado, Splyce and oNe remain to compete for the two available Closed Qualifier spots.
The day saw the early fall of Nick "N4j" Norman and his crew Wise to the pug of Ignition, who would later be snuffed out by Ghost. The team of AZIO too saw a similar early end to their run, as they were eliminated just before reaching the quarterfinals by yet another pug, Crouchshoot.
Towards the end of the bracket, it was Bravado and Splyce who really had to fight their way through some tough competition to secure their spots in the semifinals. Bravado took out teams like Guerilla Tactics and the MDL roster of Mythic, while Splyce, with the help of prospective player Stephen "reltuC" Cutler, eliminated two formidable Main contenders, Impact and Vikings.
While Ghost and oNe had much less trouble on their path to the semifinals, the Brazilians did have to go through MDL side F1-racecar-PEEK. Neither team performed well enough during their respective divisions regular season to make it to playoffs, but oNe continues to show us that they aren't to be written off, not only here, but also with their recent fourth place finish at the WESG World Finals.
The semifinal matches between Ghost vs. Bravado and oNe vs. Splyce will be played out later today, with the winners advancing to the Closed Qualifiers. There they will face-off against the likes of OpTic, compLexity, Liquid, NRG, Torqued, and Luminosity to decide which team will head to Sydney.
