Renegades receive IEM Sydney invite
The least surprising invite of IEM Sydney 2018 has just been announced, and it is indeed the Australian workhorses of Renegades picking up the third invite spot. They join the tournament after FaZe and champions of the previous event SK secured the first two berths.
The Australians didn't fare too well at the previous event, placing lower than their compatriots Chiefs. Since then they've been on a resurgence, with roster changes seeing them slowly increase their fortunes, including recent results where they narrowly missed out on playoffs at IEM Katowice 2018 and falling to FaZe in the quarterfinals of StarSeries i-League Season 4.
IEM Sydney 2018 is set to take place between May 1st-6th, with $250,000 on offer at the Qudos Bank Arena. It will also be a stop on the $1,000,000 Intel Grand Slam.
After this invite, there are six remaining spots yet to be distributed. For Europe, UCC have set up the $10,000 16-team GG:Origin tournament, featuring Brazilians Não Tem Como, from which the winning side will receive a spot in Sydney.
