Atmosphere pick up forfeit win over Grizzlys
Garrett "Grt" Bambrough and co. were to face Atmosphere in the Grizzlys' 10th ESEA MDL match of the season yesterday, but scheduling issues saw Atmosphere claim a forfeit win in the end.
A tweet from Grt later in the evening indicates that Atmosphere chose not to try rescheduling the match, securing themselves their ninth win instead as they look to clinch a playoffs slot at the end of the season. However, Dust2.us has learned from MDL sources that Grt is only able to schedule matches for two days a week, leaving little room for other teams to work with.
With the top eight teams proceeding forward into the playoffs, this free win grants Atmosphere some breathing room as the current standings remain close.
Two weeks remain for the playoff contenders to solidify, with Joshua "steel" Nissan's Torqued requiring one last victory to assure themselves a slot. Atmosphere remains in close contention in 5th place, while the Grizzlys still have a chance to recover having played only ten matches, with their last MDL match being played almost three weeks ago. If their scheduling woes continue, they stand to forfeit even more matches, which will drop them out of contention for the playoffs.
Rise Nation, Swole Patrol, eUnited, and ex-Iceberg also reside at the top of the standings, with ex-Iceberg looking to extend their nine-game win streak as the season draws to a close.
Season 27's MDL playoffs are just around the corner, set to kick off in two weeks' time. Teams will look to prepare in any way they can, with some squads attending MadCity Open in Chicago this weekend to get more experience under their belts.
