Immortals add lurppis as General Manager
Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen, former Counter-Strike 1.6 player, and currently occasional analyst, has joined Immortals as the General Manager for Counter-Strike, the organization announced on their website today.
lurppis has known many trades within the CS scene over the years, having played on teams like Evil Geniuses, been on casting and analyst desks, written for many websites, and more. He has also spent recent years working for JP Morgan as an investment banker in the United Kingdom.
The Finn's role within the organization may not be what many expect however, as his "focus will be on business operations, content, and event formatting." CEO of Immortals Noah Whinston had this to say about what lurppis' will bring the the company:
Tomi’s not coming in to help us land a better team, or to take a team and make them ten-percent better and more competitive. He’s joining us to build out a piece of the Counter-Strike ecosystem that enables us to engage fans in ways that most teams just aren’t right now.
The American organization has been without a team since December of last year, but Whinston has confirmed that they will be picking up a new one soon. That team may just be SK, as cybersport.com has reported that Immortals plan to sign the Brazilians at the end of their contracts.
