Which coaches are best after timeouts?
Coaches are not allowed to communicate with players during a round, so aside from pre-game preparation, they can only affect a match during a timeout.
It is often thought that the coach will come in with a play call or an adjustment to convert the next round and take momentum in their side's favor.
So, which coaches are the best at winning a round directly after calling a pause? CS Stats BR published their findings on X, which are based on the post-timeout stats from IEM Katowice and BLAST Bounty Season 1.
Remy "XTQZZZ" Quoniam from Vitality and Sergey "Hally" Shavaev from Spirit took the top two spots with 58% and 57% conversion rates, respectively, while Vitality won Katowice and Spirit won BLAST Bounty.
Of the 25 teams who played at least 100 rounds across both events, only seven coaches registered 50% or greater win rates after a timeout. While timeouts are the coach's best time to influence a game, they often call a pause when the momentum is going in the other team's direction. This points to an inherent difficulty in winning rounds after a tactical pause, which makes the top performers' numbers all the more impressive.
