PW Shanghai Major Americas RMR Day 1 puts Wildcard, COL on brink of qualification

RMR events are always expected to feature some level of craziness, but this PW Shanghai Major Americas RMR took this to a whole different level. Three huge upsets took place in just the first six matches, which has helped two North American squads reach a 2-0 record.

The big winners of this first day are, by a large margin, Wildcard. The Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz-led team impressively beat Liquid 16-12 and paiN 13-10, two of the best teams in the event, and are now just one Bo3 series away from qualifying for the organization's first-ever major.

On the other end, are Nouns. The DAO-backed team will be facing elimination in the next round after two lackluster losses against paiN 13-5 and BESTIA 13-6. Despite the strength of their opponents, Nouns were only able to win five and six rounds in the respective matches, which leaves a lot to be desired, especially after months of lagging results for the squad.

Wildcard are joined in the 2-0 bracket by Complexity, after having beaten BESTIA 13-7 and BOSS 16-12, with this latter victory coming after overtime. 9z and MIBR are the other two unbeaten teams so far, and they only faced South American opponents.

BOSS opened the event with a crazy 13-7 win over M80 and nearly upset Complexity but would ultimately finish day one with a 1-1 record. Liquid, after stumbling against Wildcard, would go on to dismantle KRU 13-2. The rest of the 1-1 bracket features the likes of FURIA, who also lost the opening match in overtime, against Legacy.

M80 meanwhile bounced back after their upset loss to BOSS with an overtime 16-13 over RED Canids to put Marcelo "coldzera" David's squad on the brink of elimination.

Day two will start with the four 1-1 Bo1 matches, where no one will advance or be eliminated, and that will be followed by the advancement/elimination Bo3 series.
