Legacy fall in Thunderpick opening
The Thunderpick World Championship is upon with the first North American representative, Legacy, falling in their opening match of the competition. The all-Brazilian lineup were defeated by HEROIC in a 1-2 affair with the first two maps going into overtime.
Legacy have struggled in the recent days after falling just short of a berth in ESL Pro League Season 21 after losing to both M80 and NRG in the final hurdle of the playoffs. The organization had made the move to North America with the goal of competing in these qualifiers and the loss certainly hurts after spending the time, money, and effort to make the transition to the northern continent.
The Brazilians did put up a strong fight against HEROIC's European squad. The team came out swinging on their pick of Ancient to take a 9-3 first half lead, but saw that slowly chipped away as HEROIC were able to tie it up in regulation and then secure the overtime victory.
Legacy responded by claiming Dust2 after an all-equal battle in both halves. The two sides had two six-six halves and with overtime on the way, the Brazilians ensured they would be defeated just yet.
Now on Anubis is where HEROIC decided to end it all, despite a solid start by Legacy. The Brazilians went ahead 7-5, but couldn't hold onto the lead as HEROIC mounting an 8-1 second half T-side to force the win.
Legacy are expected to play the loser of Imperial v. NIP later today.
