Akimbo await finals opponent as ESEA Advanced S50 reaches final three
ESEA Advanced Season 50 has rapidly approached its conclusion as the 24 teams in playoffs have whittled down to just three: Akimbo, InControl, and undefined. The last three weeks of competition has the entirety of the upper bracket played out, while many of the division's top teams have also seen their seasons go up in smoke in the lower bracket.
The upper bracket of ESEA Advanced Season 50's playoffs was confidently won by Akimbo, with the Mongolian lineup only dropping a single map as they cruised through five Bo3 matchups. to earn a spot in the finals. Their opening matches against LOSTHILLS and Take Flyte FRAUDS were quick 2-0 victories while undefined were able to steal a map of Akimbo before falling 2-1. The Asian squad were back in peak form in their next matches as they bested the French-Canadian Homyno stack 2-0 in two close maps before doing the same to InControl.
Moving into the lower bracket, the opening two series of matches played out largely as expected, with twelve teams being knocked out at this stage. The next round of matches saw a number of top Advanced teams knocked, with DETONATE being felled 2-0 by MIGHT, Take Flyte FRAUDS bested 2-0 by straykids, and jahsdnmasjdm v2 taken out 2-0 by undefined.
Rounds five and six then saw MIGHT notably take down Homyno in a series that began with Homyno winning Mirage 13-7 before being smashed 13-1 and 13-7 on Nuke and Inferno, respectively, denying David "J0LZ" Jolin and co. another opportunity to return to ESL Challenger League.
Round six also saw Final Form fall to undefined, with the latter ECL superteam claiming a decisive 2-0 victory over the plucky Advanced upstarts led by Andrew "CAJUN" Guidroz in their final series with Jesus "Zzeus" Torres.
With only four teams left in playoffs, undefined's next match was against MIGHT in the lower bracket semifinals, seeing two squads of extremely experienced players facing off to try and carve a path back into ECL. The first map in the series, Mirage, went the distance requiring overtime for undefined to claim it 16-12. After a close opener, Inferno ended up being quite one-sided with undefined taking it 13-5 to eliminate their ECL colleagues in fourth place.
With their win over MIGHT, undefined are now set to play InControl tonight for a spot in the finals. Both squads fell to Akimbo earlier in the tournament and are likely gunning to win a potential rematch against the squad.
undefined will play InControl tonight at 09:30PM.
