Cyrix: "Lake was a fantastic player for us, but I think we can still do some damage"
After several months away from regular competition while studying abroad, McKinley "Cyrix" Hollison returned alongside Limitless this past July. The team fell short of their goals at the Americas RMR closed qualifier, but Limitless is looking to use Fragicago 2024 as a momentum builder for the rest of ESL Challenger League. Cyrix took a moment to speak with Dust2.us' Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore at Fragicago to discuss his return from time off and the future of the roster.
Please note that the full interview can be found below on YouTube, while the transcript has some key snippets from their conversation.
How are you feeling after taking some time away? Were you always planning to come back and compete?
It definitely took a second to get back into the swing of things, being gone for so long. I've been grinding and I'm feeling really good again. I was reached out to right before I came back to form this Limitless squad. Even before that I was planning on coming back. I don't plan on quitting anytime soon.
This new Limitless roster features many of the same players from Unjustified. Was it the plan to rebuild that squad from last year?
Yeah. We had a really great core of players on that team, and I think we do a lot of things really well together. I think Lake was a fantastic player for us and he definitely boosted our roster for sure, but I still think [without him] we can do some damage.
Sandman has come up recently through the Advanced/ECL pipeline. What can you tell us about his tendencies and roles?
Sandman for us is like our new star player. We're giving him the space he wants to do the things he wants to do. He's a great player, a great teammate, he does everything we need him to, he communicates well, he brings a lot to our practices, and he brings a lot of great ideas. I think he has some big shoes to fill but I think he can do it.
We've heard that DJF will be leaving the squad after Fragicago. Can you explain what's going on with the roster and what the plan for the future is?
DJF will be leaving after this event. We do have something else in mind for the team, for sure. I don't want to say anything quite yet, but we do have something in place.
Limitless are currently facing off against Nouns in the semifinals, with the underdogs aiming to make the upper bracket.
