BOSS qualifies for the RMR after round reset uproar
Despite all the odds, BOSS has directly qualified for the upcoming 2024 Perfect World Shanghai Major Americas RMR later this year after defeating Elevate 2-1.
It was a back-and-forth contest that ended in a thrilling double overtime. However, a disagreement about handling a round reset towards the end of the first overtime marred the game. BOSS asked for a reset after Matthew "Cryptic" Whitmore disconnected from the server, however Elevate argued that because Jaxon "Peeping" Cornwell had already taken damage, the round should not be reset and would go to Elevate.
The ultimate decision was that Elevate and BOSS would replay the round, with Elevate winning in the end to force the second overtime of the third map.
To back up, BOSS stormed out to take a dominant 8-4 lead to begin the series on Elevate's pick of Ancient. The team was strong enough to eventually hold it together, coming away with a 13-10 surprise win to start off the series.
Things did take a turn, as Elevate would not go down without a fight. The lineup was persistent on BOSS' pick of Nuke, keeping it tied at 6-6 in the first half and then eventually pulling away on their T-side to secure a tight 13-11 victory.
Dust2 was where it all came to a head. BOSS and Elevate seemed close in the first half which ended tied at 6-6. However, BOSS jumped out to a 10-6 lead and looked destined to pull away. Elevate pulled out an incredible rebound to secure Overtime.
In overtime, it constantly went back and forth, including the round reset controversy, as mentioned above. BOSS eventually lost that round reset and was forced to go to a second OT, where they secured the important four rounds to come away with the win and the RMR berth.
