Take Flyte officially DQ'd due to illegal roster substitutions

Yeah, I mean, they lost either way, so...

During last night's loss to Legacy, Take Flyte used their coach Frankie "Champ" Miranda in place of Caleb "jchancE" Davis for the first map. The rifler would later join for the second map, but this was already too late as Champ had acted as a substitute the day prior.

While playing against LAG, Champ stepped in for Kevin "Grave" Le, the squad's first substitution. Any substitution after that was not allowed, which unfortunately happened during the Legacy match.

It is clear in the post-match that Take Flyte did not intend to violate the rules and were reportedly told by the Admins that such substitutions were allowed. The lineup themselves believed they were in accordance with both Valve and Perfect World's rules.

The official Valve Major Supplemental Rulebook states the following for substitutions:

Fact box

Substitutions

Each team can substitute a player with their registered substitute once during the event.

  • A team may make a substitution in-between matches for any reason.

  • A team may make a substitution during a match or in-between maps only in the case of a medical emergency.

  • Once a substitution has been made, the team can continue to play with the substitute player until they choose to revert to their Core Lineup.

  • The substitution rules above apply if a team chooses to revert to their Core Lineup.

  • Once the team reverts to the Core Lineup, it may not substitute again for any reason and must play shorthanded or forfeit if the situation arises.

While Take Flyte lost the series against Legacy 1-2, that match will be voided as the Admins have granted the Brazilian lineup a forfeit win, according to HLTV. The decision will, therefore, affect Legacy's potential ranking points as it will not count as a completed match.

This will also mark the first time a team in the North American Closed Qualifier for a Major has forfeited two matches.
