Complexity dominate in Cologne opening round
The United States are back in action this morning as Complexity have powered through with a necessary win over the Germans from ALTERNATE aTTaX. The 2-0 sweep was a welcome change of pace for the Americans who have struggled so far in this second half of 2024.
Things weren't too tight in the second half of Inferno as Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli broke it wide open after an utterly ridiculous 1v5 round win where the AWPer had only six HP left.
It was the Germans' pick where Complexity started to find their groove. The Americans came out of the gate to grab a 4-0 lead, before aTTaX found their cracks and tied it up at 6-6 before switching sides. The second half was all Complexity, they utterly dominated the defense which included the Ace clutch, as mentioned above, by the team's sniper wielding a Galil. Complexity comfortably won their opponent's map pick 13-7 as they traveled to Anubis.
Complexity's pick was a bit scarier as the team struggled to find their footing. Complexity only managed to get five rounds on their CT-side with the Germans looking like the more-coordinated team on the map. But it was thanks to the Americans' two struggling stars, Michael "Grim" Wince and Ricky "floppy" Kemery, that the team was able to find some rhythm on the offense as they pulled out a closer-than-anticipated 13-10 victory to take the series 2-0.
This is the first time with this lineup that Complexity has secured an opening-round win at IEM Cologne. The Americans are now just one more win away from qualifying directly to the group stage. They will meet the winner of Eternal Fire v. Falcons tomorrow afternoon.
