Lake helped his team get that much closer to the RMR

Complexity dethroned, M80 find security, Brazil now tops Valve's Regional Ranking

The EWC brought some changes to the standings.

Valve have released their latest update to the Valve Regional Standings (VRS), which is an HLTV-powered ranking system used to determine invites to the RMRs and their respective Closed Qualifiers.

The upcoming cutoff for the Perfect World Major Shanghai is less than a month away with teams nervously eyeing any changes as they hope to make it into the now exclusive, invite-only Major cycle.

Majors previously allowed for anyone to participate through an Open Qualifier system which caused havoc as organizers and teams scrambled to qualify amongst a field of randoms and potential cheaters. Now, the invite-only system looks to improve upon that by judging teams for their form and consistency over time, rather than in a vacuum tournament run.

Valve has marked August 7th as the ranking cutoff and with so few events until that date, every win and every losses has become magnified.

From the latest update on July 18th the system has officially incorporated the results from the Esports World Cup which saw Complexity falter, FURIA pull out some important wins, and M80 earn a surprising upset with their new prospect Mason "Lake" Sanderson.

With those results, Complexity has been dethroned at the top of the regional standings with M80 finding more security at #7 in the region and now inching closer to a guaranteed RMR berth.

Outside of that, a few teams shuffled positions towards the bottom of the rankings for the closed qualifier. With smaller, online tournaments happening, each win becomes all that more important.
