Liquid part ways with moses
Liquid have announced the departure of Jason "moses" O'toole from their coaching staff, marking the end of the first-time coach's nine-month stint with the organization.
The beginning of moses' time with Liquid was a transitionary period for the North American team, with long-time IGL Nicholas "nitr0" Cannella and coach Eric "adreN" Hoag parting ways with the team a week before moses was brought into the project. Additionally, Liquid had just acquired young star Michael "Grim" Wince from Triumph, another challenge for the former number one team as they looked to rebuild from an underwhelming start to 2020.
Liquid's first events under moses saw the team struggle against domestic rivals FURIA and Evil Geniuses in playoffs, a trend that would continue through 2020 before Liquid were able to return to Europe following the end of the COVID-19 travel ban.
In their first European event since March, DreamHack Masters Winter 2020, Liquid went out in joint-last place after close losses to Finn "karrigan" Andersen's mousesports and Astralis — who had also been sent to the lower bracket earlier than expected following an upset loss to GODSENT.
In December, this new-look Liquid finally began to take shape during IEM Global Challenge as Liquid took down Heroic, FURIA, and BIG to set up a rematch against long-time rivals Astralis in the grand finals. Liquid were unable to take the trophy after a competitive 3-0 loss to Astralis, but the finals appearance marked an upswing in Liquid's form.
Moving into 2021, Liquid made another massive change to their lineup, parting ways with Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken and bringing in Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo to take over as IGL and dedicated AWPer. With FalleN joining moses at the helm, Liquid initially enjoyed decent results, claiming a number of top-four finishes before going on another cold streak that has recently seen them drop series to the likes of paiN and Dignitas. These recent losses plus a month-break from competition seem to have resulted in Liquid electing to move away from moses and take the project in a different direction.
Liquid are now:
- Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski
- Keith "NAF" Markovic
- Jake "Stewie2K" Yip
- Michael "Grim" Wince
- Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo
According to a report by HLTV.org, Liquid are set to reinstate adreN as the team's head coach, reinstating the current Mythic player ahead of the start of cs_summit 8. cs_summit 8 will be Liquid's first domestic competition since March when it kicks off on on May 20th.
