Wildcard knocked out of IEM Chengdu
It's a tough end of the road for Wildcard in China, as the team couldn't make it competitive against Cloud9 in the lower bracket and has been eliminated. Wildcard were already playing with Ian "motm" Hardy as a stand-in but also had to field João "horvy" Horvath, the coach, after Josh "JBa" Barutt fell ill with food poisoning.
Wildcard, with all those disadvantages, had to face two HLTV Top 10 teams in Virtus.pro and Cloud9, with both matches ending quickly in defeat. When the squad returns to North America, it will continue its ESL Challenger League Season 47 campaign.
The first map against Cloud9 was similar to the match against Virtus.pro. C9 started on the CT-side of Mirage and opened a 9-0 lead before Wildcard could get on the board with just a single round win. That would be all for the North American squad, as Cloud9 would claim the 13-1 victory.
On Overpass, things started off slightly better. Despite the 4-0 deficit, Wildcard managed to tie the game before C9 got back to winning ways. The first half would end with Wildcard trailing 7-5 going into the T-side. Once again, the offense was inexistent for Wildcard, as Cloud9 cruised to a 13-5 win.
Wildcard have now been eliminated from IEM Chengdu leaving Liquid as the sole team with North American players. Liquid only plays tomorrow against MOUZ for a spot in the semifinals of IEM Chengdu at 07:30AM.
