Stewie2K reportedly set to trial for Brazilian team
According to a report by Roque Marques of Dust2 Brasil, Legacy are set to trial Jake "Stewie2K" Yip during the month of April, seeing the former Evil Geniuses IGL tapped for a return to activity 21 months after last playing at a professional level. Stewie2K's reported return to action comes after Legacy benched Marcelo "coldzera" David by mutual agreement on March 25th and are currently looking for a replacement post-Major.
The out of left field decision to trial Stewie2K also comes as Legacy are set to complete their move to North America, which they first announced back in February. This may explain why the organization has looked to an American free agent to start their NA tour, as they are able to enlist his services without delay.
Additionally, as the Brazilian scene is notorious for massive buyouts and cutthroat negotiations for players, Legacy are likely waiting for market conditions to improve heading into the 2024 summer player break. The longevity of this move also depends on how well the roster makes the transition to communicating in English, with the Brazilian members of the lineup having varying degrees of experience communicating in English in-game.
This theory holds some weight as Dust2 Brasil understands Stewie2K's trial is relatively limited in scope, with the former Major winner's trial being limited to the start of ESEA Season 49 and the Esports World Cup NA Open Qualifier.
Legacy is reportedly set to consist of:
-
Bruno "latto" Rebelatto
-
Eduardo "dumau" Wolkmer
-
Gabriel "NEKIZ" Schenato
-
Bruno "b4rtiN" Câmara
-
Jake "Stewie2K" Yip (Trial)
-
Olavo "cky" Napoleão (Coach)
The earliest we may see Stewie2K in action with Legacy is in ESEA Season 49, which is set to start on April 8th.
