Legacy plan move to North America
In an interview with Thulio Bastos of Brazilian esports website Game Arena, Legacy's manager, Américo Verde, revealed that the team is planning a move to North America following the conclusion of the PGL Major Copenhagen in March. Legacy are one of seven Brazilian squads looking to claim a spot in the first CS2 Major in history.
In the interview with Bastos, Legacy's manager said that the move was a result of a long-term discussion between the organization and its players over whether the team should stay in Brazil, move to North America, or even seek to enter the European scene. After a lengthy process, the decision was made to prepare for a move to North America as the organization believes NA can offer Legacy "better conditions for our project in the short, medium and long term."
Legacy's decision to move to North America comes as LOS have also returned to the NA scene in recent months. The decision by the two organizations seemingly goes against the conventional wisdom of the previous year, which saw paiN and MIBR leave NA for Europe and South America due to the perceived lack of opportunity in North America. Importantly, Legacy are making this decision in a context where ESL just launched the first season of a South American ESL Challenger League division and recently increased the value of South American events in the ESL World Ranking.
Should Legacy commit to a North American move, it will be interesting to see how the Brazilian squad will shake up the NA landscape. While Legacy has struggled to find a way into the top 30 in recent months, they should be a hearty challenge for NA squads in ECL, especially as all players have previously played in NA. Additionally, the presence of Marcelo "coldzera" David could help to raise the profile of NA events with casual and veteran fans alike.
Legacy currently consist of:
-
Marcelo "coldzera" David
-
Bruno "latto" Rebelatto
-
Eduardo "dumau" Wolkmer
-
Gabriel "NEKIZ" Schenato
-
Bruno "b4rtiN" Câmara
-
Olavo "cky" Napoleão (Coach)
Legacy's next event will in fact be in North America when the PGL Major Copenhagen Americas RMR starts on March 1st.
