daps explains return to coaching post-RMR
Yesterday, Dust2.us broke the news that NRG had a number of changes following the Americas RMR, most notably seeing Damian "daps" Steele hang up the mouse once again to become the team's coach. Following this decision, daps took to his private X account to explain the change and addition of Colby "Walco" Walsh in his place.
In the post, daps explained that NRG were unable to find a suitable IGL for the roster that was available before the ESL Challenger League roster deadline, thus necessitating his return to the servers. However, daps quickly realized that after four years away from consistently playing at a high level really takes a toll on one's ability to perform. As a result of his diminished in-game ability, daps decided to bench himself and focus on solely coaching the team because the former Gen.G player "couldn't assure that [he] could regain [his] former level of performance."
This roster change comes after a difficult PGL Copenhagen Major Americas RMR for the team, who was invited just a few days before its start due to Rocket forfeiting its spot thanks to cheating during the qualifiers. Adding to that, NRG's return to Counter-Strike has been far from successful, with the team losing qualifier after qualifier, despite reaching the final stages of these events.
The current NRG roster is:
-
Josh "oSee" Ohm
-
Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte
-
Jadan "HexT" Postma
-
Justin "FaNg" Coakley
-
Colby "Walco" Walsh
-
Damian "daps" Steele (Coach)

A more detailed explanation of what happened:
Initially started playing to mainly hit the ECL deadline as there were no IGLs that were available or that we felt confident in. After about a month, I started to realize how long 4 years really is to be away from actively playing in a competitive CS team since Gen.G.
After realizing the disparity between my current abilities and how I performed in past vods when I was active, I felt that it would be best to return to coaching. I couldn't assure NRG or my teammates that I could regain my former level of performance, nor could I predict how long it would take.
